The Gill Foundation, established in 1994 by software entrepreneur Tim Gill, seeks to secure equal opportunity for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression.  The Gill Foundation is one of the nation’s largest funders focusing primarily on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights in the U.S.

VICE PRESIDENT OF DONOR RESOURCES

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President of Donor Resources is
responsible for four outcomes:

• Bringing more dollars to the LGBT movement
• Bringing more dollars to key initiatives, collaborations, and grantees of the Foundation
• Supporting donors in making more effective and strategic gifts
• Diversifying the institutional and individual donor base to create more sustainable funding for the LGBT movement

The focus is on more financial resources to the LGBT movement, not to fund the
operations or programs of the Gill Foundation. To achieve measurable success on
these outcomes, the Vice President of Donor Resources will shape, grow, refine, and
implement a comprehensive donor development program focusing on individuals and
institutions. The Vice President of Donor Resources will manage a staff that includes an Institutional Partnership Officer, an Individual Donor Advisor, and administrative
support. The individual will work with staff from all facets of the Gill Foundation to
achieve the desired outcomes. This individual will foster a creative, nimble, and positive team environment. This person must be committed to bringing a culture of excellence, creativity, collaboration, and impact to all the efforts and initiatives of the foundation’s Donor Resources Program.

The Vice President of Donor Resources is a member of the senior management team
and works closely with the Gill Foundation Board of Directors.

LOCATION

This position is located in downtown Denver, Colorado

RESPONSIBILITIES

We seek an experienced fundraiser and philanthropic strategist with a passion for the
mission and values of the Gill Foundation. The candidate has achieved quantified
results, building, leading, and managing a high-level development program that
increases donations from high-wealth individuals and foundations. This individual has
had direct involvement in planning and successfully implementing diverse strategies for obtaining major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations. This individual has a proven ability to work and lead in a highly collegial and collaborative manner. This individual will be comfortable in leading efforts in all donor cultivation, fundraising, and related external relations activities.

The Vice President of Donor Resources is responsible for the following:

1. Articulating and providing innovative, strategic leadership in the planning,
implementation, and direction of all facets of the Donor Resources program
including a comprehensive program of individual major gifts, corporate, and
foundation solicitation, to ensure that the fundraising goals and objectives are
successfully achieved.

2. Working effectively and productively with the Vice President for Communications
to create and coordinate plans for external communications, focusing on
enhancing the organizational identity as well as the consistency of messaging
regarding all donor initiatives.

3. Preparing fundraising goals and expense projections, with the President and
CEO and the Gill Foundation Board, and being accountable for the
implementation and results of such efforts.

4. Working effectively and productively with the President and CEO in the
cultivation and stewardship of major donors and prospects. This individual will
actively solicit gifts themselves as well as support the President and CEO, Board,
staff, and key volunteers in making asks.

5. Providing guidance, stability, support, and collaboration to a staff of
professionals, offering empowerment so that each can grow and excel in their
positions; offering leadership and guidance to the President and CEO as well as
to the Board of Directors in their development activities.

6. Managing all administrative aspects of the Donor Resources program, including
building and maintaining accurate databases and reliable donor records, and
working cross-functionally with other departments.

A person who actively seeks out new prospects or donor relationships, who likes the cultivation and stewardship process, and who can successfully close gift opportunities is required. These skills would include techniques gained from prior fundraising experience, from organizing a comprehensive development operation, from launching successful new programs of donor engagement, or acting as a philanthropic strategist. The successful candidate will be results-oriented, with strong organizational and communication skills. The successful candidate is a creative and energetic individual
who functions well within a team environment, which includes cross-department coordination.

A bachelor’s degree is required, and evidence of continuing education in such areas as major gifts and campaign management is strongly preferred.
