Dave Montez

Senior Program Officer

Dave Montez is one of our program officers who assists the director of policy and advocacy with research, development, and implementation of comprehensive, strategic agendas for LGBT-focused states and national grant making. Dave is also responsible for designing and implementing the Gill Foundation’s national strategy to build alliances between LGBT and Latino groups.

Before joining the Gill Foundation in 2007, he was a research development officer at the University of Colorado, Denver, where he researched and reviewed funding opportunities, grant proposals, and funding contracts for faculty members seeking funding from for-profit, federal, state, and local nonprofit agencies. He also worked for the Latino/a Research & Policy Center as the events and publications coordinator, where he planned, coordinated, and implemented all center-sponsored events.

Dave speaks Spanish and holds a BA in journalism/public relations from Metropolitan State College of Denver. He is dedicated to community involvement, and is a gubernatorial appointee to the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), which oversees an average of $40 million in grant funding annually. He worked for two years with the Colorado Human Rights Campaign as the fundraising dinner co-chair, raising nearly $100,000 in corporate sponsorships each year.

Additionally, he worked as a Ryan White Title I grant reviewer for the City and County of Denver and served as the co-chair and LGBT representative on the Denver Center for the Performing Arts community relations council. He is a graduate of Leadership Denver, where he helped raise money and resources to remodel Urban Peak, the youth homeless shelter in Denver.
