Karla Rikansrud is the director of allies and institutions responsible for building broad support for LGBT equality. In this role, she provides grants to national allies and institutions, with a particular emphasis on safe schools. As part of these national efforts, Karla provides management support for the African American and Latino initiatives.
Before joining the Gill Foundation in 2010, Karla was the development director at Emergency Family Assistance Association, a basic needs nonprofit organization. Karla also held development positions at Outward Bound and Intercambio de Comunidades. Before starting her second career in the nonprofit sector, Karla held numerous positions during a successful 20-year run in the telecommunications industry.
Karla holds a Masters degree in nonprofit management from Regis University, an MA in communications from the University of Northern Colorado, and a BS in education from CU-Boulder. Karla’s history includes LGBT and political activism and volunteer board positions held locally and nationally.
Karla and her partner live in Boulder with two cats and the cutest dog in the entire world.
