As Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Gill Foundation, Bobby leads the strategic communications efforts for the foundation and the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, a program of the Gill Foundation. Under Bobby’s leadership the Gill Foundation will continue to advance its mission to secure equal opportunity for all Americans regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression.
For more than twenty years, Bobby has been driving messages to the forefront of public awareness through political campaigns, non-profit organizations, and the private sector.
Most recently, Bobby served as the Executive Director of ProgressNow and ProgressNow Colorado, a nationally recognized network of progressive communications and advocacy organizations with affiliates in 12 states. Bobby’s innovative work with ProgressNow has been covered by national publications that include the New York Times, USA Today, and the Washington Post. Under his leadership, the ProgressNow network drove a progressive agenda that generated thousands of stories in state and national media, and cultivated a network of nearly 3 million grassroots members and activists.
A defining experience in Bobby’s career arrived in the form of Howard Dean’s presidential campaign. One of the earliest staff members, Bobby launched the campaign’s groundbreaking Internet effort and helped pioneer its innovative use of social media to build the campaign into a national movement.
His work on the Dean campaign reinforced his belief in the possibilities of social media and new organizing techniques, and established him as one of the leading strategists in the country.
In addition to launching the ProgressNow network, Bobby led the development of the social networking platform ultimately used by Barack Obama’s presidential campaign to power its My.BarackObama.com website.
For the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Bobby co-created the first-ever new media lounge at a major political convention, “The Big Tent”, which served as headquarters for more than 500 of the top bloggers and new media journalists from across the country. The Big Tent became one of the most talked-about venues at the convention, and was covered by national and international press, including CBS Evening News Anchor Katie Couric.
Bobby’s experience also includes corporate marketing and communications, a consulting practice that has included non-profit and political clients nationally and internationally, as well as a law practice in the early part of his career. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma and Vanderbilt Law School, Bobby lives in Denver with his partner, Shaun Cartwright.
